Located on a compact lot in a regulated area, this 15' x 35' pool was governed by multiple agencies including the Planning Board, Coastal Zone Management Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and ARB. Vegetative windows frame borrowed views of Long Island Sound, thus creating a sense of openness and connection while preserving the intimacy or the space.
Construction timetables were scheduled around low tide, and extensive dewatering measures were required to install an engineered mat slab on which to anchor the pool. Note how the geometry of the spa, as framed by its coping, is expressed onto the patio, by way of banding, to define a larger space for lounging -- a playful, expressive use of line and shape.
An organic kaleidoscope celebrating the connection between people and place. Thoughtfully curated landscapes are a collection of spaces, or rooms, each designed for a specific purpose. The poolscape is one such room featuring its own sequence of sub-spaces that, collectively, present an unfolding Matryoshka doll-like theme.
