The property is surrounded by a wetland system with multiple upland review areas; the recessed equipment pad alcove in the photo directly above mitigates disturbance in one such area and, therefore, town involvement in the owner's project.

Space requirements for pools and associated patio areas are often much larger than many property owners realize. Even subtle variations in slope may necessitate retaining walls to create a level terrace for a pool.
Above: Lounge areas, or rooms, and walkways, or hallways, are mirrored diagonally across the pool to create a Yin & Yang form. The square shape of the spa, as framed by its coping, is expressed onto the patio, by way of banding, that forms a larger lounge area. This play on shapes, with mirroring and repetition, lends continuity to a meditative space.
Above: Various phases, from pool construction to completion, are depicted in this pictorial sequence that illustrates how important planting design is; by itself, the pool looks out of place and clashes with the wooded area in the background. Plantings, however, are a connective element that facilitates a meaningful dialogue between the pool and its surroundings.

These, and other details, reflect a curated outdoor living space that expresses the architectural characteristics of the residence into the landscape.
