The property is surrounded by a wetland system with multiple upland review areas; the equipment pad alcove recessed into the retaining wall mitigates disturbance in one such area and, therefore, town involvement in the owner's project. The swimming pool is 20' x 40' and features a large sun shelf, and 7' square integral spa aligned with an existing staircase.

Lounge areas and walkways are mirrored diagonally across the pool to create a Yin & Yang geometry. The square shape of the spa, as framed by its coping, is expressed onto the patio, by way of banding, to define a lounge area. This play on shapes, symmetry, and repetition, fosters a subconscious familiarity with the human form, thus conveying peace and calm.

Through careful layout and alignments, in plan and elevation, the new poolscape appears to have been designed and built in unison with the existing residence. The interplay of patios (rooms) and walkways (hallways) is shaped, in part, by the surrounding upland review areas. In essence, constraints inform creative thinking that always nets more favorable outcomes.
Owner Testimonial: “Working with Sean was a great experience. His design brilliance was evident at our first meeting; however, it was his ability to bring his vision to life, including navigating the various technical and environmental complexities that really made him shine. Sean often went above and beyond his scope as an architect, bringing many of the construction, local municipalities and service components together like a symphony conductor. Highly recommend!” - Colin G.
