Day and nighttime poolscape images taken from a consistent perspective: The pool is 18' x 36' and features an integral spa, sun shelf and steps, and swim lane. Notice the relationship between lounge areas and walkways around the pool that are analogous to rooms and hallways in a house - creating a more layered and dimensional poolside environment.
The Pee Gee Tree Hydrangeas in the foreground of the image directly above are new, whereas the one centered between them in the background is existing; this technique is one of many methods employed by LDC that weave existing and proposed features across our compositions to curate landscapes that harmonize our clients' properties.
Cottage gardens are characterized, in part, by lush overflowing plantings rich in color and texture. The style is reflected in this poolscape featuring Crabapple trees that will bloom early in spring, and Nepeta (the purple flowers) that will bloom shortly thereafter. Hydrangeas and Liriope then take the baton with flowers that persist late into the season.
Poolscape plantings provide color and texture, break up the horizontal monotony of the space, mitigate the heat island effect, wick moisture from the system, and frame lounge areas, or rooms. Plants also provide separation from lawn areas to keep maintenance equipment, grass clippings, and lawn chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides out of the pool.
